Doing Mobile Right

Go where the eyeballs are!  Go Mobile!  Got it.  … This is definitely the trend in good business practice in both the B2B and B2C space.  But to do it right? is a whole different story.

Thought I would compile some steps one can think through to ensure your mobile solution supports your business needs.

  1. Business Needs:
Do the analysis of what your business needs might be at this time. They will change, plan for that; but look for the sure-fire-wins you just must have.  Write them down, make sure you Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution address them.
  2. Implementation and Trouble Shooting:
Have you thought about who you might partner with to do the implementation of your solution; but right in the same breath, think about the trouble shooting and quality control needed to iron out most of the bugs. Very often, this aspect of the implementation is not done as well as it should be.  Your users will thank you for a job well done.
  3. 24 x 7 x 365 Help Desk:
This is very often forgotten. Who is going to be using your Mobile Apps? What are their behavior patterns? Make sure you are structured to help them address any issues that might come up.  Device compatibility is always an issue that can show its ugly head.
  4. 24 x 7 x 365 Administration:
Your users might be scattered all across the globe, working in different time zones and in different countries. Setting them up, managing access and user profiles might take a more robust infrastructure that you might originally have thought.
  5. 24 x 7 x 365 Application Management:
With multiple mobile solutions, several enterprise applications, dozens of mobile operating systems and thousands of devices all needing to work in harmony; keeping everything connected, up to date and secure can be a huge challenge; think through and plan for that.
  6. Device Logistics:
As the number of devices you might need to include in your solution increases, the degree of complexity here increases.  Think through the need to provision, replace, keep an inventory and repair devices as needed.  Also think about break fix, spare pool management and recycling of devices; it’s always good to go green.
